Measuring and Pricing a Gable Jaali

A gable jaali is the decorative triangular panel that fills the space under the apex of a pitched roof — the single most visible feature on a Kerala-style or traditional South Indian elevation. Ours are CNC router-cut from PVC foam board as one continuous piece wherever the size allows, so there is no visible seam running through the middle of the pattern.

The two measurements we need

  1. Base width — the horizontal distance across the bottom of the gable triangle, in feet.
  2. Height to apex — the vertical distance from that base line straight up to the point of the roof, in feet.

Area = (base × height) ÷ 2. A common gable at 12 ft base and 6 ft height works out to 36 sq ft. Add roughly 10% for the cutting allowance.

Rate by thickness

ThicknessRate per sq ftSuits
8 mm₹160Small gables, sheltered or porch positions
10 mm₹200Most house gables — the standard choice
12 mm₹240Wider spans, exposed elevations, deeper shadow
18 mm₹300Large double-storey gables, maximum relief

So a 36 sq ft gable in 10 mm comes to roughly ₹7,200 before shipping. Send your figures and we'll confirm exactly.

Measuring from the ground

You don't need a ladder. Photograph the gable square-on from directly in front, with a door or window visible in the same frame — we scale from the known height of the door. Send it on WhatsApp and we'll come back with the area estimate for you to confirm.

The full walkthrough is in our PVC measurement guide.

Why SS ARTS Gable Jaali

  • One piece, no seamCut as a single continuous panel wherever size allows, so the pattern reads clean across the whole gable rather than breaking at a join line.
  • Cut to your triangleEvery gable is a different width and pitch. We cut to your exact base and height instead of making you fit a standard panel.
  • Made for coastal weatherNo rot, no warping, no rust and no termites. PVC foam board outlasts wooden gable work by years in Karnataka and Kerala conditions.
  • Light enough to fix easilyFar lighter than wood or cement, so it mounts onto the gable face with screws and adhesive without structural work.
  • Preview before we cutYou see the pattern rendered at your exact dimensions and approve it. Nothing goes on the machine before you say yes.
  • Your design or oursChoose from the patterns here or send a photo of a gable you like. Custom drawing costs no extra.

PVC Gable Jaali FAQs

How do I measure a gable?
Two figures: the base width across the bottom of the triangle, and the vertical height from that base up to the roof apex, both in feet. Multiply them and halve the result for the area. Add about 10% for cutting allowance.
What does a gable jaali cost?
It is priced per square foot of the triangle: ₹160 for 8 mm, ₹200 for 10 mm, ₹240 for 12 mm and ₹300 for 18 mm, with shipping extra. A typical 12 ft × 6 ft gable is 36 sq ft, so roughly ₹7,200 in 10 mm.
Can I measure it from the ground?
Yes. Take a photo square-on from directly in front of the house with a door or window in the same frame, and we scale the gable from the known door height. Send it on WhatsApp and we will estimate the area for you to confirm.
Is it cut as one piece or joined?
As one continuous piece wherever the size allows, which is why the pattern reads cleanly with no seam through the middle. Very large gables are cut in a small number of sections with the pattern aligned across the joins.
Which thickness should I pick?
10 mm handles most house gables. Move to 12 mm or 18 mm for wide spans, double-storey elevations or where you want a deeper shadow line. 8 mm suits small or sheltered gables where cost matters more than depth.
Will it survive monsoon and sea air?
Yes. PVC foam board does not absorb water, rot, warp or rust, and termites do not attack it. It is used extensively on coastal Karnataka and Kerala homes for exactly that reason.
Can you copy a gable design I've seen?
Usually. Send a clear photo on WhatsApp — we redraw the pattern as a cutting file, adapt it to your triangle dimensions and show you the preview. There is no extra charge for a custom pattern.
Do you fit it?
We supply. Fixing is straightforward with screws and adhesive and most customers use their own mason or carpenter. Tell us your location and we will advise on the fixing method for your gable.
How long does it take?
Around 7 to 10 working days from design approval, plus transit time to your city. Tell us if you have a griha pravesh or handover date and we will schedule backwards from it.
