PVC Jaali vs Concrete, Wood and MS Jaali: An Honest Comparison

If you are designing a gable, a porch screen, a staircase partition or a compound feature, you have four realistic choices in India: CNC-cut PVC foam board, precast concrete jaali, carved wood, or laser-cut mild steel. Each wins in a different situation.

• Gable ends, upper elevations, high or awkward positions — PVC. Weight is the deciding factor.
• Ground-level compound walls, boundary screens, anywhere people lean or climb — concrete. Impact resistance matters more than weight.
• Interior partitions, pooja rooms, feature walls — wood or PVC, depending on budget and whether you want a real timber grain.
• Security screens and grilles that must also resist forced entry — MS. PVC is decorative, not a barrier.

Why weight decides most gable jobs

A gable is the triangular section of wall under the roof peak. It is high up, often reached only by scaffolding, and frequently not designed to carry additional dead load.

A concrete jaali screen at that height means scaffolding, several people, and a structural check that the wall can take it. A PVC panel of the same area can usually be lifted and fixed by two people, and the fixing is straightforward. That single difference is why most gable enquiries end up in PVC regardless of what the customer first asked about.

Where PVC is genuinely the wrong choice

We would rather tell you now than after installation:

• You need security. PVC is a decorative screen. It will not stop anyone. Use MS.
• It is at ground level where people lean, sit or climb. Children on a compound wall will eventually crack a thin panel. Use concrete, or specify a thicker PVC board and closer fixing points.
• It carries structural load. PVC jaali is never load-bearing.
• You specifically want real timber grain. PVC is finished white as standard and can be painted, but it is not wood and will not read as wood up close.

Thickness is the real decision

Once you have chosen PVC, thickness matters more than pattern. Thicker board is stiffer, casts a deeper shadow, spans further between fixings and resists knocks better. Thinner board is cheaper and perfectly adequate for a sheltered interior partition.

Common questions

Does PVC jaali turn yellow in the sun?

PVC foam board is stable outdoors and does not rot, rust or absorb water. Like any white exterior surface it collects dust and needs occasional washing. If long-term appearance in full sun is your main concern, a thicker board and a painted finish give you more control.

Can PVC jaali be painted?

Yes. It comes white as standard and takes paint well, which is how most customers match it to an existing elevation colour.

Is it cheaper than concrete jaali?

Not always on material alone. The saving usually shows up in installation — no foundation, no scaffolding crew, no structural strengthening — rather than in the panel price itself.

How is it fixed?

Screws into the surrounding frame or wall at regular intervals. Fixing spacing depends on thickness and span; larger panels need more fixing points, not thicker board alone.

Can I get a pattern that is not on your site?

Yes. It is CNC-cut, so any clean vector pattern can be produced. Send your drawing or a reference photo and we will confirm feasibility, because very fine detail can leave the panel fragile.

What about very large elevations?

Large panels may need to be split into sections for transport feasibility, and shipping is charged separately. We confirm this before quoting.
